Our third-generations family company's core competence lays in the production of processed vegetables and mushrooms into high-quality products for retail, large households and industry. Our strengths are the fresh, carefully selected raw materials harvested nearby from which we make the best products with Finnish know-how and a traditional recipe. In addition to our own Sauvo's brand, we manufacture Private Label-products for our Foodservice customers.
The roots of our family business lead to Sauvo in 1962, where Toivo Saurén together with three local producers
started preserving cucumbers modestly in an old dairy. Toivo had a long experience in the service of the Finnish food industry, and therefore special expertise in preserving vegetables. In this nostalgic factory, the first Sauvo's products; pickled cucumbers, were made by hand. This secret traditional recipe has stayed within the family ever since and is still used in our products. At the time the risks were great, but strong expertise and passion for the branch created faith in the future.
In 1966, the company was taken over entirely by the Saurén family and moved to Piikkiö, a municipality nearby Turku. Toivo with his wife Anna-Brita moved to Piikkiö and the family grew. As cucumber preservation provided work only seasonally for a short period of time per year, other products that would guarantee year-round employment, such as mushroom preserves, were developed. Over the years, the product range and customer base expanded, and in 1989 the company moved entirely to its current location in the Pukkila industrial area in Piikkiö.
Much has changed from these days, but the same traditions and values have stayed deeply rooted in the company’s core competencies. The company has expanded into a modern production plant, which today is Finland's largest manufacturer of preserved vegetables, processing thousands of tons of cucumbers, beets, mushrooms and other vegetables from contract crops. The company's CEO is Tom Saurén.
Long traditions, responsibility and strong know-how are still close to our production on a daily basis. Our goal is to manufacture quality products that meet the wishes and expectations of our customers. As a result, we strive to ensure that our products find everyone who enjoys good food on the table.
